Art Workshops and Events are a new initiative by Wonewoc Community
Arts Center and Museum. Each workshop is a unique platform that
combines an artist talk, a performance and a hands-on learning
session. You will learn about the roots of each presented technique or
a style and get to meet some of the most notable local artists in
informal and personal settings. LOCATION: If not noted otherwise, the workshops are at 103 Washington Street, Wonewoc, WI. ATTIRE: We encourage being ready to get dirty. We plan on using spray paint and other art material that require personal protection. We provide gloves and aprons but feel free to have your own gear. SUPPLIES: All supplies will be provided FEES: Suggested donation is $10 per participant per workshop. The workshop fees are used to make this experience possible and they are fully used for the instructor honorarium, all materials and tools, safety supplies, and to support the hosting organizations that provide us with the space. OCCUPANCY: We try not to turn anybody away, but sometime we must close the door after the limit has been reached. There are no reservations, please plan on arriving a few minutes early to secure your spot. SUPPLIES: Spray paint, brushes, coloring books, markers, HO scale trains DATE: 5/25/2025 TITLE: Stencils INSTRUCTORS: Alicia DECOY Cosnahan / Peter Krsko DESCRIPTION: The stencils are some of the oldest art tools that humans ever used. Recently, stencils have gained notoriety as an effective and fast tool for street artists. The instructors will summarize history and highlight some of their favorite international artists. Hands-on section will contain basics of image preparation, material selection, safety tips and instructions on how to cut paper and acetate. MATERIALS: Paper, projector, acetate, x-tacto knives, acrylic paint, sponges, pencils, markers DATE: 6/15/2025 TITLE: Wheatpasting: Circus Poster History / History of Street Advertising / Street Art INSTRUCTOR: Alicia DECOY Cosnahan DESCRIPTION: Lecture: History of old street advertising posters in Europe, import to the US and use of posters in Circus advertising. Contemporary street art genre. Step-by-step instructions on creating a poster and wheatpasting it to a wall. SUPPLIES: Paper paint protecting tarp, (same from Relax and Paint), stencils, silk screens DATE: 6/22/2025 TITLE: Relax and Paint INSTRUCTORS: Lisa Wheeler DESCRIPTION: A relaxed and fun step by step COW painting session guided by local artist. No prior experience required. SUPPLIES: Canvas board, acrylic paint, brushes, cups, bucket, paper towels DATE: 6/29/2025 TITLE: Gel-Medium Transfers INSTRUCTOR: Peter Krsko DESCRIPTION: While learning about the unique landscape of the Driftless region, participants will learn the technique of gel medium transfer using the photography by wildlife photographer Dennis Panczenko. SUPPLIES: Canvas board, acrylic paint, brushes, cups, bucket, brushes DATE: 7/6/2025 TITLE: Line Dancing Class INSTRUCTIONS: Richard Kilmer DESCRIPTION: Enjoy learning basic line dancing steps such as Grapevine, Toe Strut and Jazz Box! Dances are taught at a slow pace with steps and patterns broken down step by step. No partner required. SUPPLIES: Music player and speakers DATE: 7/13/2025 TITLE: A Narrativre Thread - Embroidery - The making of a community quilt INSTRUCTORS: Rachelle HANDMADE Craig DESCRIPTION: First half of the class will be dedicated to traditional embroidary stitches like Chain Stitch, French Knot and the Lazy Daisy stitch. Second half of the session will be dedicated to Sashiko, a traditional Japanease mending technique. All participants are welcome to take a block to create on and give back for the community quilt project: The Beauty of Wisconsin. Guests can build on their blocks each class or take home and finish. SUPPLIES: Floss, needles, embroidary hoops, material, scrap material DATE: 7/20/2025 TITLE: A Narrative Thread - Applique - The making of a community quilt INSTRUCTORS: Rachelle HANDMADE Craig DESCRIPTION: A French word meaning "to put on", we will learn how to attach fabric shapes to a larger piece of fabric to create designs, patterns or embellishments, using techniques like hand stitching or fusing. All participants are welcome to take a block to create on and give back for the community quilt project: The Beauty of Wisconsin. Guests can build on their blocks each class or take home and finish. SUPPLIES: needle, thread, scissors, irons, iron board, scrap material DATE: 7/27/2025 TITLE: A Narrative Thread- Fabric Stamping - The making of a community INSTRUCTORS: Rachelle HANDMADE Craig DESCRIPTION: Creating custom fabric designs using inks and stamps. All participants are welcome to take a block to create on and give back for the community quilt project: The Beauty of Wisconsin. Guests can build on their blocks each class or take home and finish. SUPPLIES: fabric, stamps, soap bars, plastic knife, ink DATE: 8/3/2025 TITLE: Relax and Paint INSTRUCTORS: Lisa Wheeler DESCRIPTION: A relaxed and fun step by step painting session guided by local artist. This session the painting is of a evening forrest scene with trees and lightening bugs. No prior experience required. SUPPLIES: Canvas board, acrylic paint, brushes, cups, bucket, brushes, paper towel DATE: 8/10/2025 TITLE: Community Mural 1: Techniques, Mural Topic, Research, Projection, Abstract Background INSTRUCTORS: Alicia DECOY Cosnahan / Peter Krsko DESCRIPTION: First class will consist of choosing the theme of the project along with what photos will be used. The abstract background of the pieces will be painted as a community. Begin tracing photos. Wildlife Photography of Dennis Panczenko will be used in this project. Begin cutting stencils. Start applying layers of stencils. Use stencils to make individual smaller projects. SUPPLIES: Dibond, projector, sponges, paint, tarp, buckets, sharpie, poster board, x-acto knife, tape, hair dryer DATE: 8/31/2025 TITLE: Dance: Two-Step Dance Class INSTRUCTOR: Richard Kilmer DESCRIPTION: Country Two-Step is a easy dance that almost anyone can learn. It is a slow, romantic, floaty dance that features rock steps and long glides across the dance floor. Come enjoy the fun of country dancing and pick up the basics of Two Step. No partner required.
